Things that stuck with me today
A "prayer" or "saying" if you will, that I heard in an audiobook today. It is mean to be said to oneself after catching a belief/or pattern that one is trying to kick. It is a reminder, and a way back to finding the most honest answers within:
Not my will, but my hearts will.
I've been reading this book a friend lent me and am about half way through now it is called, Modern Buddhism: Path of Compassion and Wisdom. Beginning has been mainly an introduction to Buddhism, including a lot of the background and main figures. Some of the notes that I want to carry with me from what I read today are these contemplations:
Each and every living being is supremely kind and precious to me. They provide me with the opportunity to attain the pure and everlasting happiness of enlightenment - the ultimate goal of human life.
I must believe that the happiness and freedom of myself and all other living beings are equally important because:
(1) All living beings have shown me great kindness in both this and previous lives.
(2) Just as I wish to be free from suffering and experience only happiness, so do all other beings. In this respect, I am no different from any other being; we are all equal.
(3) I am only one, whereas other are countless, so how can I be concerned for myself alone while I neglect others? My happiness and suffering are insignificant when compared with the happiness and suffering of countless other living beings.
I also marked this quote by Shantideva in the section of "The Path of a Person of Great Scope",
All the happiness there is in this world, Arises from wishing others to be happy.
Did a yoga class tonight with a friend, and just loved the instructor. I love her style, reminds me of Yoga Works. We ended our yoga practice tonight by grounding ourselves "to the earth's core." The yoga instructor then said "to remember we are all connected to all living beings." I love that in yoga I get to be reminded of this too. I also really enjoy that we always end with "thank you for your commitment to this practice."
On Instagram earlier today I posted a quote by Sri Ramana Maharshi that I found on a Facebook page, that also resonated with me. It reads:
"Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside."
Peace and love, everything is within us. The universe is within us.
Everything you need, your courage, strength, compassion and love; everything you need is already within you.
Appreciating these reminders throughout my day. Staying awakened and looking for the good everywhere I go.
